While Joan and I were traveling down I-44, we stopped at the Waffle House in Rolla, MO. As we talked with Denine Yerk, one of the servers, she was devastated and still grieving over the drug overdose death of two of her younger brothers … and was making a concerted action to have others join her in taking a “stand” against illicit drugs, killing so many of our young people.
Hear Denine Yerk as she tells her story … in her own words.
Along this line of what gets young people to hard drugs, I raise a point: how many young people go from Pepsi Cola to hard drugs? Are not milder forms of beverage alcohol the “gateway” to hard drugs? If folks only had a few beers, it might be one thing. But it too often leads to another. In our home, as a form of insurance and conviction, we never had any alcoholic beverages. So our children never saw us – in home or anywhere else — using “gateway” drugs!
