From the website, 10 Days of Prayer:
“’Ten Days of Prayer’ began in 2004 as an international effort to pray together in cities. 2019 marks the first 10 Days of Prayer in the St. Louis Metro Area! Participating prayer sites are representative of many different denominations and traditions. We hope that the Body of Christ will increase in unity by praying together and visiting each other’s churches across our region.
“10 Days is a prayer meeting for all of the region. It’s a season where Jesus Christ is the focus of every heart in our area for 10 entire days!”
Marco van Raalten is the Coordinator with his team of St. Louis’ “10 Days of Prayer.” He was born and reared in the Netherland, Holland, and is the oldest of six children in a solidly Christian home. He is the only member of the family who experienced a call to come to live and minister in the United States.
The family knew very well the remarkable Corrie Ten Boom, the major subject of the powerful book, The Hiding Place. During World War II the Nazis of Germany were killing Jews just for being Jews. During the World War II years, the Nazis of Germany murdered 6,000,000 Jews is what became to be known as the “Holocaust.”
In the Ten Boom living quarters – above the family business in a suburb of Amsterdam – her family risked their lives in providing a “hiding place” to save the lives of Jews they hid there. Her father and her sister were killed by the Nazis. Only Corrie survived the concentration camps World War II.
Years ago, in a visit to the “Holocaust Museum” in Jerusalem, I saw a tree there that had been planted and was growing in honor of the memory of Corrie Ten Boom.
As a young pastor in his native country, Marco had met Brother Andrew, well known as “God’s Smuggler,” living in danger of his life for smuggling in Bibles behind the “Iron Curtin” in eastern Europe.
