From the Archives: Dr. Henry Blackaby of Experiencing God (www.blackaby.net, where you will find an update on Dr. Blackaby’s health) tells powerful stories of his visits to “death row” prisoners at the notorious Angola Prison in Louisiana. Amazing! The instances of transformation by Jesus of many formerly violent Angola inmates are so remarkable that wardens from other prisons around the country have requested that some Angola inmates be transferred to their prisons!

Dr. Henry Blackaby (www.blackaby.net) in this radio conversation talks about the hunger of millions of Christians – having close and intimate relationship with the God of Whom they are aware in their heads. His “Experiencing God” books and workbooks have published 8 – 9 million copies in more than 50 languages.

In this radio conversation Dr. Blackaby provides very moving stories, including that of the infamous and violent Angola Prison in Louisiana. He cites his visits to “death row,” the “home” of rapists and murders, many of whom have gone through “Experiencing God,” seeing their lives radically changed. (New Orleans Seminary thus arranged extension classes in Angola Prison.)

The transformation has been so complete in Angola, with many of the prisoners sensing a call of God to missions, resulting in greatly reduced prison violence, that prisoners have been transferred to other prisons to minister … with similar positive results.

Conclusion: if God can transform hardened murderers and rapists in a violent prison, He can fix/transform any of us!

When the late Dr. Avery Willis, my dear friend from University days, heard Henry’s teachings – with Henry sharing that he did not consider himself a writer – Avery moved forward to have Dr. Claude King become strategic in the writing of “Experiencing God” and the related materials.

Three generations of the Blackaby family will visit St. Louis Oct 12 – 16, 2012 to lead four “Experiencing God” events hosted by four different churches throughout the region – Twin Oaks Presbyterian, Abundant Life Fellowship, Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist, and St. Matthew United Methodist in Belleville, IL.
