Mark and Joni Akers lead a wonderful ministry serving refugees from war torn countries around the world. They are headquartered a block south of famous Bevo Mill in south St. Louis and provide practical hospitality … and all that goes with it … in Jesus name.
They come from nations such as Iraq, Bosnia, Semolina, Liberia, Congo, Burma (Myanmar), Afghanistan, and Bhutan. Oasis provides English classes, computer and sewing classes, finds jobs, provides food, furniture and improves their housing … all in Jesus Name!
“Practically everybody there is coming from a war.”
Joan and I are delighted that our son and his family are – as time allows – volunteer at Oasis. to their Kingdom work.

A story I wrote about them some time ago is worth repeating:
Mark relates an incident with an older Muslim lady to whom they ministered who could speak very little English, helping her get settled in St. Louis. She got out her cell phone, called one number, then another, then handing the phone to Mark. In each case it was a son of the lady Oasis was helping in the name of Jesus, each in a different Middle Eastern country, each offering a huge expression of appreciation for Mark and Oasis’s loving and practical help to their mother.
One part of Heaven is herein described:
“And they sang a new song:
‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.’ (Revelation 5:9)
