Judy Redlich provides great leadership for “Joni and Friends” in St. Louis, a great ministry on behalf of those with disabilities.
Under Judy’s leadership, Joni and Friends provide a wide range of ministry services. Churches seeking to minister to those with disabilities, for instance, are offered training on how to do it and grow in the quality of it.
They sponsor mission trips to Mexico, delivering mostly refurbished wheelchairs, walkers, etc. – while training the churches in their ministries to those with disabilities.
Interning and volunteering opportunities are available.
Each year a fundraising gathering is held that spotlights these services done in Jesus Name. 2016 is a sample. We’re invited to the STL Joni and Friends “Director’s Dinner” on Thursday, Nov 10, 6:30 – 8:30 PM (replacing the earlier noon fundraisers) at the Orlando Gardens, 2050 Dorsett Road, Maryland Heights, Mo 63043.
To make your reservation, call 314 774-5664 or email gateway@joniandfriends.org.
And also in 2016, Joni and Friends St. Louis provided their first family retreat, providing a wonderful few days for families having one or more disabled in the family, held at Camp Barnabas (www.campbarnabas.org) .
About Camp Barnabas, from their website: ‘…Lauren [Hauschild, with cancer, told Cyndy Teas, Director of Health Services for Kanukuk Kamps at the time] that she wished she could just be a normal kid at camp. Cyndy asked her what that would look like, and Lauren described a place where different is normal and normal is different. ‘Everyone would be in a wheelchair or on crutches. No one would care that your hair was missing from chemo,’ Lauren said. ‘It would be easy for anyone to do all of the activities of camp. Cancer wouldn’t isolate you–it would unite you–and when you came there, you would be loved.’"
Well, it happened … and they call it “Camp Barnabas.” I remember once when football great Kurt Werner was on the national entertainment program “Wheel of Fortune” he donated his earnings to Camp Barnabas.
If you are reading this beforehand, Joan and I hope to be with you at the “Director’s Dinner” on November 10, 2016.
