Ministry to Men (www.ministrytomen.net), centered in St. Charles County just across the Missouri River west of St. Louis County, is a ministry fixture in the region. Their featured annual ministry event is a great prayer breakfast with attendance approaching 1,000, usually the second Tuesday of September.
Ministry to Men is a showcase ministry, showing the way, for a magnificent blend of a “parachurch” ministry with local churches. It is not a competition. It is a partnership.
But their ongoing “bread and butter” service ministry to men is the sponsoring of “Bible discussion” groups for men, mostly in the early morning each week.
Founder Charlie Williams is the founding leader of Ministry to Men. But after a lifetime of service to Jesus and men, Charlie turned the direction of it over to another effective leader, Derrill Martin who had ministered locally through Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two decades.
In a recent time of radio with Derrill, I picked up on his brief comments noting that, in the early years, 20+ weekly groups of men were meeting. But in more recent times, the Bible discussion groups had doubled … to 40+!
I was hungry to know why. I would think others who minister … and want to reach more people … might have the same question.
Toward the end of this 10 minutes of radio with Darren Martin, he provides some answers.
Remember that you can go to www.ministrytomen.net and find St. Charles and St. Louis area Bible discussion groups of men — intentionally avoiding “churchy” language — each one gathering weekly … during the six days of the week. All men are invited to pick one … or more … and join in the inspirational building of friendships around the “Word!” You are welcomed.
