“Q: Talk about some of the keys to making change in your life. As Christians, what mistakes do we sometimes make when seeking change?
A: Often times we are seeking some kind of change in our lives, perhaps in our circumstances or our behavior or in our hearts. As Christians, we often come to God and we make the mistake of asking for the wrong things.
• First, we often ask for God to change our circumstances instead of changing us. God is more concerned with our character development and our heart than He is in our comfort. In the Bible, you rarely read of the Apostle Paul asking God to change his circumstances. One of the keys to making change in our life is to recognize that God has plans to change you. Unfortunately we are often focused on changing everything around us except us. So that needs to change first, the idea that God has plans to shape and mold us. When we recognize this, our entire perspective changes.
• Second, we often seek the answer and long for the answer, whatever that may be, instead of seeking God. We come to God, not because we seek Him, but because we seek what He has to offer. (example of Daddy/Daughter date last week – what was your favorite part of the day? Spending time with you.) I challenge you to plan a date with God.”
And there is much more!
