Russell Stendal at age 4 saw sad pictures of Indians in Columbia, South America, was “moved with compassion” and wanted to go there and help.  His father told Russell that, when he grew up he could go there as a missionary.  Russell got on his knees and asked God to let him go there sooner.  Within a short time Wycliffe Bible Translators called his parents to serve in Columbia.  So, at age 8, Russell was on the mission field in Columbia.  As of this writing, the Stendal family just celebrated 50 years of serving Jesus as Columbian missionaries.

As an answer to his prayer to “reach the gorillas,” Russell was captured for five months by the warring faction called the “gorillas.”  He asked the Lord, “What are you doing?”  The Lord’s response, “I’m helping you reach the gorillas!”

His missionary service includes being a pilot, establishing several Christian radio stations, recording and broadcasting from those stations, and seeing tens of thousands of solar pocket radios (www.galcom.org) distributed that are locked into local Christian stations only.

Those radios each contain computer “chips” wherein can be heard the entire Bible (of which Russell and his daughter have recorded the whole Bible), all of J. Vernon McGee’s “Through The Bible” broadcasts, and much more.  In the dangerous area they have been distributed by small planes (Russell is a pilot) by five-pound-capacity parachutes.

The first interview with Russell Stendall titled Columbian missionary Russell Stendal (1); once captured by wartime “gorillas” in answer to prayer can be heard by clicking on: http://haroldhendrick.com/content/view/567/5/
