Attack Poverty has a Houston, TX staff of 40, and more than 100 worldwide.
After an extended conversation with Brandon Baca including our radio interview with him (available for listening right now), he offered to visit St. Louis to see how Attack Poverty might serve as a resource in mid-America.
Attack Poverty can only be helpful in partnership with local ministries. Their ministry is to be helpful utilizing their full assets in advancing the Kingdom of God.
From www.atackpoverty,org:
“Dear Friend of Attack Poverty,
“The Attack Poverty Board of Directors has named Brandon Baca as Interim CEO, and he joins the organization’s Board of Directors. After joining Attack Poverty in 2012, Brandon served as Senior Director for Programs and Development, Senior Director of Operations, and most recently as Chief Operating Officer. The Board has full confidence in Brandon and believes he is very qualified to take over leadership of the organization, given his long tenure at AP and established relationships with employees and external partners.
“Attack Poverty remains focused on its mission to support the community through its ‘Friends locations’ by delivering quality programs where they are most needed. As we work through recovering from the recent tragedy [hurricane], the mission of Attack Poverty remains unchanged – to empower people to attack poverty in their life and community by strengthening under-resourced communities through spiritual growth, education, revitalization, and basic needs. The AP staff is fully committed to this mission and we have been blessed with, and continue to receive strong support from, our key financial partners.
“Our vision is to empower people to attack poverty in their life and community by strengthening under-resourced communities through spiritual growth, education, revitalization, and basic needs.
Our Community Development Model
“Our community development model requires a long-term commitment and collaborative efforts with local organizations, churches, residents, and stakeholders committed to community transformation. We use an ASSET-BASED approach that aims to build on the strengths and capacities of the community.
Our work is holistic.
“We understand the connections between a decent place to live, a living wage job, spiritual health, clean water, quality education, childcare, healthy families, basic and financial literacy, transportation and access to health care for sustainability.
Our driving force is empowerment.
“We give people tools to help themselves break out of the cycle of generational poverty. It is about DEVELOPMENT, not charity, DIGNITY, not shame. Believing all humans are created in the image of God, we will always promote the dignity and worth of people and families.”
Brandon Baca lives next door to his father-in-law, famed Kingdom-of-God strategist, Dr. Jerry Wiles. Career missionary and strategist Dr. David Garrison told me, “Everybody knows Jerry Wiles!”
Brandon Baca: “We sometimes hold strategy meetings to reach the world with the Gospel … right in our Houston cul-de-sac!”
