As a young man, JIM TALENT had no religious background. But a “stirring in his mind and heart” motivated him to make a diligent search for truth. His awareness that there were “absolute truths” in life and in existence, there had to be an “absolute source” for those truths.
In this search Jim began attending “Bible Study Fellowship” (See Bible Study Fellowship (bsfinternational.org) and a church that proclaimed the absolute truth of the Word of God, the Bible.
Then one day in the midst of his search, while driving into St. Louis on Interstate 44, he was listening to DR. JAMES DOBSON interviewing EVANELIST LUIS PALAU (known as the “BILLY GRAHAM OF LATIN AMERICA on St. Louis Bott Radio Network.

Upon Dr. Dobson inviting Luis Palau to lead in “… praying the prayer of salvation …,” you can now hear Senator Talent tell the story of how he responded with a “yes,” pulled over into a public park off I-44, prayed confessing his sins, and asked Jesus Christ to come into his life! That is when Jim used a phrase in scripture that applied to the moment in his life.
“I passed from death into life!” Jim affirms.
In that 2021 radio recording which anyone can hear right now, this “coming to saving faith in Christ” through faith and repentance is available to anyone … again, RIGHT NOW!
In the flow of our most recent time together, Senator Talent referred to two brief passages from the Bible book of John:
“BUT AS MANY AS RECEIVED HIM, TO THEM HE GAVE THE RIGHT TO BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD, EVEN TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIS NAME, WHO WERE BORN, NOT OF BLOOD NOR OF THE WILL OF THE FLESH NOR OF THE WILL OF THE FLESH, BUT OF GOD. (John 1:12, 13)“
And….
(JESUS SAID) … THE ONE WHO COMES TO ME I WILL CERTAINLY NOT CAST OUT.” (John 6:37)
Without any human coordination, Jim in his flowing testimony, specifically referred to these two passages.
They were exactly to verses quoted and read to me when, as a teen-age lad, YOUTH FOR CHRIST DIRECTOR HAROLD JORDAN quoted to me when, on my knees, I claimed by faith the promises made to me in the Word of God!
That was in the winter of 1950-51. God has continued to – through the years — honor those promises he made to me 70 years ago!
