I have admired Larry Absheer for a long time. For more than a generation he has served as the Chief Financial Officer prestigious Missouri Athletic Club (www.mac-stl.org) and, of late, is now MAC’s Director of Advancement.

The Coronavirus has caused the 2020 Breakfast to be Cancelled
(In this time of radio, we call attention to another of his good involvements … the upcoming Prayer Breakfast for Greater St. Louis of Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Hundreds attend each year, this year again at the America’s Center of St. louis. Featured speaker this year is J. Our friendship began when the “word got out” that in 1999 Evangelist Billy Graham was coming to St. Louis to lead a “Greater St. Louis Evangelistic Crusade with Billy Graham.” He quickly let others know that he wanted to be a part. And that is what he did. And the Missouri Athletic Club was strategically located for the event … on the southeast corner across Broadway from the “Dome,” was the location of the Crusade. (Where the St. Louis Rams then played football and where the Battling Hawks of the XFL now play.)
Larry’s desire to be involved was not surprising when we learned that he had attended Wheaton College, largely because it was where Dr. Graham had received his higher education. So, 30 years after Billy had gone there, Larry enrolled. And he, for 30 years, has been the Coordinator of the Wheaton Alumni in the St. Louis Region.
He was not led to continue his pursuit of being a pastor, but he has ministered remarkably as a professional at MAC. He has made the marvelous facilities of MAC available to scores of gatherings of followers of Jesus. The Billy Graham preparation meetings before the 1999 Crusade … and many other gatherings – such as the “Rock the River” under the St. Louis Arch with Franklin Graham, attended by tens of thousands of mostly young people – is another example.
With Larry Absheer commitment to integrity and good style of doing all things, the community of Jesus followers found that the Missouri Athletic Club was a nice location for important meetings of all kinds. The whole arrangement works out beautifully, largely because of Larry Absheer.
He knows heartache and grief in that the “lost to Heaven” of the love of his life in recent years, dear Jane Absheer!
