We’ve all heard of the children’s TV show, “George of the Jungle.” Now meet “Haward of the Jungle,” who began living in the Zambian jungle when he was only a child.
While visiting St. Louis, Haward Shawa, now age 23, and Bob Bertels summarize Haward’s remarkable life. Because there was not enough food to feed his family, when age 8, Haward went and lived in the Zambian jungle with all kinds of wild animals. He slept on the ground in the dry season and in trees during the rainy season. His dog died saving his life from an aggressive and venomous snake. He found his deathly ill father, a hunter in the jungle, strapping him to a donkey to get him to medical help, but he died on the way … on and on his story goes. It would make a good Tarzan movie…
This brief radio recording includes one of the most gripping stories I have ever heard!
Again, African Vision of Hope’s Bob Bertels (former mortgage broker and advertiser on STL Bott Radio) and AVH’s Zambian staff member Haward Shawa can be heard right now.
He shares: “… There is a way in the jungle, a way you kill, a way you smell. You wear skins and cover yourself in plants so you do not smell good to predators. If you are in the bush you must be wearing a knife, spear, and sling shot. It is kill or be killed. I have watched many of my friends die, one by one, from wild animals.”
His story continues in the magazine-like African Vision of Hope Report of 2019, titled, “YOU ARE THE BRIDGE FROM DESPAIR TO HOPE!!” (Receive your free copy – with beautiful, colorful pictures of the precious children being helped – by calling African Vision of Hope at 618 288-7695 or 618-531-7365.
There is more in the Report regarding Haward. “Do you know the best way to defend yourself from a gorilla? How about the best time of day to fetch water from a river filled with crocodiles, or a way to kill a python without damaging the valuable skin? Hayward does.”
Haward persisted in applying to be admitted to one of the AVH schools there — (no room in the beginning), and eventually succeeded to be admitted.
