St. Louis Attorney Thomas Bakewell, man of integrity, has developed an unusual skill and expertise: “How board members can do it better!”
As we might think about it, most organizations – excluding private businesses – are run and directed by boards of directors. At least for the first term of service on a board, most become a part with limited skills as to how do it … and how to do it well.
For those who take such board member opportunities seriously, Thomas Bakewell is a great resource.
Claiming Your Place at the Boardroom Table: The Essential Handbook for Excellence in Governance and Effective Diretorship is the book he wrote about how to do it.

Enjoy these few radio minutes – including its humor — with my longtime friend, Thomas Bakewell.
Thomas has done much past research on two great men of history: William Wilberforce was a wealthy man born in 1759 and “born again” in Christ in his 20’s as a member of the British Parliament. He was to give most of his adult life to eliminating the British Empire, first of the slave trade, and later of slavery itself; and John Newton, a slave trader who … fearing death in a storm … gave his life to Christ. He became a clergyman who wrote “Amazing Grace!.” Shortly after the conversion of Wilberforce, he sought counsel from Newton … who advised Wilberforce to stay in parliament and serve God there.
He did! And much of the world was wonderfully impacted!.
