When God called the Prophet Jeremiah to special service, he said:
(Underlining mine)
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 in the Bible)
Five times the Living God used the personal pronoun “you” … a pronoun of personhood … describing Jeremiah before he was born. Two of those “you”s were applied before his formation had begun … likely referring to the interval between his conception and the beginning of his actual formation in the worm.
Such wonderful truth!
Jeremiah was a “you” … a human person … before he was born!
It is this reality … this truth … that has dominated the mindset of Samuel Lee for most of his life.
He lives out this conviction as a 30-year lobbyist in the Missouri Legislature in Jefferson City, ever encouraging in behalf of legislation for the protection of unborn children.
Sam even met his wife in a pro-life event. Mrs. Samuel Lee is the Director of Our Lady’s Inn, a St. Louis area care facility for homeless women and their young children. Longtime friend Connie Eller serves there also. Connie is founder and Director of Blacks for Life.
Sam and I recall the story of the young unmarried St. Joseph, Missouri, woman in 1905 who became pregnant and gave birth to her child. (Thank God there was no Planned Parenthood in those days … or the story might have ended right there.) She took her baby by train from her home in St. Joseph to Kansas City to seek a good home for her baby. The Kansas City newspaper wrote of the story, and many there applied to become the baby’s parents. She selected a family, caressed and cared for her baby in the train station all night before lovingly handing her baby off to the new parents. She then returned to St. Joseph.
The first time I heard this story was from a video of a speech made on the floor on the Missouri State Senate by then Senator Delbert Scott, a wonderful man of great character and integrity.
Senator Scott told that story and, toward the end of it, dropped a “shocker!” In that speech … in behalf of legislation to further protect unborn children … he announced that the mother in St. Joseph was his great-grandmother … and the saved baby was his grandmother!
Sam added to the story … which was news to me. Senator Delbert Scott’s son, attorney Todd Scott, is pro-life (are we surprised) and a member of the close staff of the newly elected Missouri Governor Eric Gritchens!
(Sam Lee is supported by donations of friends and supporters! Hint, Hint!)
