Judy Boen is perhaps known as being the founder and committee chairman of “Christian Family Day at Busch Stadium” in St. Louis, Mo.
Much good was done through the whole experience of it. Once a year … for 20 years … on a summer Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo, thousands of children, mostly underprivileged, would be invited to a party with plenty of food free from Chic-fil-A in a downtown park, given a free ticket with a cola of their choice to see a baseball game of the famed St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and … after the game … presented with a live music concert and hear the Christian testimonies of some of their favorite born-again players.
It was quite a day. The Cardinals went 17 to 2 in wins during that time.
But much less well known about Judy Boen was that, as a newlywed, she was a secretary and friend to many world famous astronauts.
Here she reflects on the recent death of her astronaut friend, Eugene (Gene) Cernan.
