Rev Larry Rice: began New Life Evangelistic Center serving poor & homeless; STL City Hall hostility!

If you visit New Life Evangelistic Center (www.newlifeevangelisticcenter.org) in downtown St. Louis tonight, you will find, more or less, 200 homeless people – men, women, and children – receiving shelter, warmth, food and loving care.

And if a battered woman arrives at midnight, with her abused children, she will let in, and the children cared for …. no matter when they arrive.

45 years ago. Rev Larry Rice began New Life Evangelistic Center.  Generous, Godly Joyce Pillsbury, now in Heaven, bought the old YWCA and gave it to New Life. 

They comfort, care for, and train many, based upon what Jesus Christ taught about the poor, needy, and oppressed in Matthew 25: 31-46..

I think of, for example, Jerome Bracely,  A few years ago Jerome as living under a bridge, using and selling drugs.  He caught a bus to New Life, was invited in, ministered to, and trained.  Now Jerome leads a great ministry, having housed and otherwise helped hundreds of addictive men.

And yet St. Louis City Hall wants to close New Life down!  The City has served them with a “cease and desist” order, even though they are a ministry.

There is a Religious Liberty issue here.

What are we going to do about it?  Prayer will be a good start.
