A tough football lineman for Duke University, co-champions his senior year of the Atlantic Coast Conference under Coach Steve Spurrier: that is one surprising description of Dr. Anthony Allen, President of Hannibal-LaGrange University, located in Mark Twain’s Hannibal, Mo!

That interesting personal fact in the life of Dr. Allen became a part of his total preparation for the important and successful role he plays today as leader of Hannibal- LaGrange University. (See www.hlg.edu)
Many early American universities – with well-known names – were begun with a focus on projecting a Biblical worldview, such as Harvard University. Harvard was begun by a contribution of Rev. John Harvard to education pastors and others in the faith of Jesus Christ. Clearly they got “off the track.” Hannibal-Lagrange – begun in Hannibal, Mo, in 1858– three years before the Civil War began – has NOT strayed “off the track.” HLGU provides higher education for its students, solidly blended into a Biblical worldview.
“HLGU blends faith with education in every discipline,” Dr. Allen assures us. “We help students discover, develop and demonstrate God’s purpose in their living.”
To provide further reinforcement for such a university education, early on in his presidency, Dr. Allen wrote a booklet: Christian Higher Education: Why it Matters.
Members of the faculty are required to subscribe to the Baptist Faith and Message of 2,000, which every Bible believer should appreciate. The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, chaired the committee that developed it and had it approved by the Southern Baptist Convention in Annual session. It can be read by clicking on http://www.sbc.net/bfm2000/bfm2000.asp
HLGU has a great focus on the Great Commission of Jesus and, thus, on missions and mission activity. The University has one of the highest percentages of students going on short-term missions – if not the highest – of any university in the country.
HLGU provides majors in 34 disciplines in affordable costs.
For students and parents looking for a solid university, focused on education with a Biblical worldview, Dr. Allen urges them to “…take at Hannibal-Grange University.”
HLGU is affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention.
On a personal note, I was privileged to serve on the Board of Trustees of Hannibal-LaGrange University for a total of 20 years … and our only daughter, Karis Hendrick Burritt, is a graduate and was a Homecoming queen. We both gained lifelong friends as a result.
Dr. Allen serves the current quality President of Hannibal Lagrange University. Past Presidents with whom I am honored to have served as a board member are Dr. Paul Brown, Dr. Woodrow “Woodie” Burt, and Dr. Larry Lewis.
Recent radio recorded at the same 2016 Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention as with Dr. Allen is titled … “Dr Larry Lewis : ‘God can forgive abortions!’ Led largest USA denomination to affirm saving unborn babies” … can be accessed for anytime listening by clicking on … http://haroldhendrick.com/content/view/813/5/.
