It is a powerful story … and is remarkably dramatized in a 9-minute video at www.samaritanspurse.org/alex.
In the horrible civil war in Rwanda in the mid 1990’s, an estimated 1,000,000 people died in 100 days … about 10,000 a day! As a child there, Alex Nsengimana watched as neighbors murdered his grandmother and uncle. Sent to an orphanage, he received a Samaritans Purse/Operation Christmas Child shoebox of love gifts! This told him that someone out there cared!
Later he received Christ by faith, and was adopted by a Minnesota family. Serving with Samaritans Purse, as a young man he returned to Rwanda, visited the prison in which the murderer of his uncle was incarcerated, realizing that God loved him also. Cameras follow Alex into the prison to capture the tearful scene of Alex meeting the murderer to tell him that he, Alex, forgave him because of God’s love!
And it is also very moving wherein Alex visited his former orphanage to distributed OCC shoeboxes of gifts to the gleeful, joyful little children living there now.
It can all be seen at www.samaritanspurse.org/alex.
We are invited to the special gathering with Alex when he comes to St. Louis — specifically the FBC, Ferguson – on Saturday, April 23 (2:00 – 4:00 PM) leading a "Focus on Love, Neighbors, and Forgiveness!"
On Friday and Monday, April 22 and 25th, Alex is visiting five North St. Louis County schools: Lutheran North, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Atonement Lutheran, Salem Lutheran, and Johnson-Wabash Elementary.
Also a part of this radio visit is with Vicki Stamps, hardworking visionary Coordinator of Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts for children for St. Louis City and County. Vicki explains that there are openings for perhaps two more schools to host a brief visit with Alex during that time. Vicki can be reached at 314 363-1150.
