Yolanda DePrater explains Shoeman Water Projects, the creative ministry that she now leads of collecting gently used shoes in the St. Louis, Mo area for very noble purposes. Those donated shoes are sold to pay for the drilling of fresh water wells in other countries were the people don’t have ready access to safe water. This is additionally important when we are aware that more people die worldwide from bad drinking water than die from starvation.
The ministry is further explained at www.shoemanwater.org. Yolanda DePrater’s short biography is available at http://www.shoemanwater.org/our-team.html.
The Shoeman Water Projects partner with many businesses and churches to advance the objective.
It was begun by a Vietnam veteran, George Hutchings, who came to faith in Christ and later began this creative work. A story George tells added great motivation to his life: a friend in Vietnam went on patrol that was to include George … and was quickly killed. One who had died for him was a reminder of what Jesus had done for us … and a motivation for seeking meaning in his life.
Scores of “drop off” locations are available, the ones nearest you can be found at the website and inserting your zip code.
As of this writing, their amazing report states that “368,996 pairs of shoes collected to date this year!”
Again, information at www.shoemanwater.org is very helpful.
