Rev. Larry Rice founded and became Director of New Life Evangelistic Center in St. Louis, MO decades ago. Decades later he is still doing it.
NLEC includes major ministry to the homeless, probably the largest such ministry in the Midwest. Upwards of 300 people — men, women, children, veterans, people of all colors … are fed and provided shelter … each night.
On a “per person … per night” basis, that totals more than 70,000 people cared for each year!
In this brief radio discussion, Larry Rice exposes efforts of St. Louis City governmental leadership to shut the Center down or reduce to almost none existence.
In recent years, investors have put money into the development of the area. Since they feel that this care for the homeless negatively affects the value of their investments, they have influenced St. Louis city government to virtually get rid of New Life Evangelistic Center’s ministry to the homeless. With Political and financial pressure, the city has taken action and has mounted a campaign to almost destroy this great work of caring for the poor. City news releases are sent out to “spin” the news against the great work of NLEC. Yet, they offer little or no replacement.
Ironically, Larry Rice notes that different STL city government agencies send the homeless to be cared for by NLEC!
To further help the homeless and the neighborhood, NLEC sought permission from the city to place “porta potties” behind their building. The city denied the request.
In the discussions with Rev. Rice, it is good to be reminded of the wealthy whose money is at the disposal of the living God. Years ago, the late Mr. Joyce Pillsbury, once owner of what was Century Electric Co. in St. Louis … with the support of his dear wife Carol paid for the old YWCA, the building that now the New Life Evangelic Center … as a place for ongoing ministry to the poor and homeless. Joyce and Carol both received Christ by faith, thus were saved and forgiven by the Son of God They made their material wealth an instrument tool of righteousness. Their commitment took seriously the Matthew 25 command of Jesus to help the poor.
Joan and I are honored to have been among the many friends of Joyce and Carol Pillsbury. They are now in Heaven with Jesus … enjoying great return on their investment.!
