Combining his call to Christian ministry and his technological skills, Allan McGuirl – in his own Canadian kitchen and basement — developed a small solar radio with the intent of advancing missions and helping missionaries advance the Good News of Jesus … everywhere!
He and the two others founders were brought together to begin Galcom International.
By Galcom’s 25th anniversary (shortly before this writing), more than 1,000,000 of these fixed-band radios – with their dials locked to local Christian stations — had been produced and distributed worldwide. It allows them to support missions and the important role of “Great Commission” (Matthew 28: 19, 20) missionaries .
These ½ pound radios are “fixed-band” meaning, locked into broadcasting the Christian stations in a region. Computer “chips” are in each radio with amazing amounts of content … such as the whole bible and content like J. Vernon McGee’s five years of Through the Bible broadcast … in numerous languages. All this is heard through each radio.
In many high-risk areas they are dropped by airplane with 5-pound-capacity parachutes. Other radio interviews on this website with 50-year Columbian missionary Russell Stendal provide wonderful examples of the use of Galcom radios in other countries.
More can be learned at www.galcom.org. A summary of Galcom’s history is found at http://galcom.org/history. Several short stories of the wonderful results are available at http://galcom.org/stories.
From their website:
Our vision is to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ preached to every tribe, tongue and nation.
In Matthew 9:37, Jesus said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”
Galcom exists to give help and tools to the missionaries that have answered the call of Christ to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15.
By using radios missionaries are able to multiply their impact and reach more people and a larger area with the Gospel every day.
Psalm 37:5 says, ‘Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.’ “
