Pastor Wm McConkey, Jami OVery oppose effort to close STL homeless site giving 80,000 nights of care

July 9, 2014

Be shocked with us that elements in the City of St. Louis, MO, want to shut down New Life Evangelistic Center’s center for care of the homeless.

Spokesperson Jami O’Very reports that the center annually provides — per night, per person (of men, women, and children) – 80,000 nights of care for those who are poor and have so little hope.

Pastor William McConkey is among the indignant!  The 50-year respected pastor of Sutter Presbyterian Church –is incensed over this rejection of the poor and needy!   He … with many others … is highly sensitive that we obey the commands of Jesus in Matthew chapter 25. Our Lord directed us to care for “…the least of these …,” the poor and needy among us.

Hear Pastor McConkey and New Life Staff member Jami O’Very … herself having been homeless … talk about this moving subject.

Homeless people congregate in the neighborhood of Pastor McConkey’s church.  His congregation is limited in ability to provide them adequate care.  But they are able to … nightly if need be … utilize the New Life Evangelistic Center for their provisions.  NLEC has a long history of providing overnight food and shelter to scores of homeless … every night.

For those seeing this information before July 22, 2014:

On Tuesday, July 22, there is to be a public hearing on the issue in the St. Louis City Hall.  We gather at 1:15 PM.  A good turnout will be helpful to our great cause.

Will you join us?

For information, Jami O’Very welcomes you call on her cell phone at   (314) 532-1931.

An earlier interview on the subject, titled … “Jami O’Very: re threats to close NLEC-STL homeless center; per person per year 80,000 nights of care”   can be accessed at http://haroldhendrick.com/content/view/546/5/ for anytime listening.

Getting this information to others … many others … will be doing a good thing!
