It is a remarkable site to see … and is very rare, perhaps unique, in the entire globe! Hear this powerful story of the power of God from Pastor Benjamin Amar … in his own words.
Part 2
Pastor Benjamin Amar … pastor of a church within the walls of the high-security prison in Manila, Philippines does art — using a lit candle, a portion of a tuna can lid as a “brush,” and melted crayons — you have to see to comprehend! (It is seen on Facebook by going to Benjamin G. Amar.) Joan and I are already inspired by ours. The Scripture verse: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart … Proverbs 3:5: is written out on our painting.
In 1999 Pastor Amar visited the 19,000-inmate Bilibad Prison in Manila. By 2001 he was led of God and began a Baptist church within its walls.
By 2014 … 13 years later … more than 2,000 prisoners, wives and children (families are allowed to visit) had been baptized, indicating that they had repented of sin and received Jesus Christ as their Personal Savior. Some prison officials are included.
The ministry includes financing for such items as “flip-flops” for prisoner footwear (since the prisoners are not issued shoes), special occasional meals for inmates and their families, uniforms for the sports teams (prisoners must attend Bible studies to be on the organized sports teams Pastor Amar organizes); chess clubs and similar activities are provided for the “intellectuals.”
The whole process … Bible classes, preaching of God’s word, allowing families to visit once a week, being on sports teams and related activities … all motivating and requiring acceptable behavior … could serve as ideas and patterns for rehabilitation and higher levels of conduct for those incarcerated in USA jails and prisons.
South County Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO … led by Deacon Herbert Murch (St. Louis host of Pastor Amar, also heard on the broadcast) raised and donated the finances required to construct their church building on the Bilibad Prison grounds. (Since prisoners have little or no money, Pastor Amar does his remarkable before-your-eyes art for donations to finance this prison church. Tax-deductible financial support designated for “Filipino Prison) can be sent to South County Baptist Church (http://southcountybaptist.com), 12995 Tesson Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63128 (314.843.5558). (To contact Pastor Amar, reaching Herb Murch would be one way … at hmurch76@gmail.com or 314 892 0314 home, 314 307 1178 cell.)
Again, on Facebook check out “Benjamin G. Amar” so see a demonstration of his remarkable art. (A commercial art producer offered him income to reproduce his work … if he would leave off the verse of Scripture. He refused … since the Scripture reference is a part of the witness for Jesus.)
