Pastor Jeff Wells to 8th Olympics; gives away 70+ “Jesus” lapel pins daily, sharing The Story!

January 31, 2014

Pastor Jeff Wells is, as of this writing, preparing to attend his 8th Olympics — this one in Sochi, Russia — as an International Sports Chaplain (see www.facebook.com).  His ongoing ministry is that of “shepherding” the Cross Keys Baptist Church in the St. Louis, MO area.

Hear Pastor Wells tell inspirational stories while each two years attending the Olympic games and being a witness.

Here is the background: the exchange of souvenir lapel pins is a widely utilized “grass roots” activity by those attending the Olympic.  Within this practice, there is a spiritual opportunity.  It results in Pastor Jeff’s having an estimated 75 – 100,  one-on-one conversations each day.

Exercising courtesy, in each conversation he offers his new acquaintance a color-coded “Jesus” pin … if they will permit him to tell them the story behind it.  They usually agree.  In these two-minutes-or-less visits, he summarizes the Gospel, explaining the meaning represented by each color: dark for the sin in our lives, red for the blood of Jesus Christ who died for us and rose again, white for the cleaning, forgiveness and new life he provides, gold for the Heaven he offers us, etc.

Most had heard of Jesus … but few knew of the message of the Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection for us … of his offer of forgiveness of all our sins … and of his gift of abundant and eternal life!.  A number have never even heard of Jesus.

Pastor Jeff typically concludes the visit by giving each acquaintance a small pamphlet – a Gospel “track “ – containing in print the same message which he just spoke to them.  He urges their reading it before going to sleep that evening.

From the International Sports Chaplain page on Facebook, from founder David Guinn:

“… Daily our team members have one purpose, one calling, and one objective. Our goal is to be found faithful to what God has called us to do: “Relational Evangelism with the Highest Integrity.” Numbers are not our objective. Our purpose is to communicate Christ’s love in the Olympic arena as we focus on sharing, loving, telling, and showing Jesus to the people assembled at the Olympic Games…”

Hear Pastor Jeff Wells tell this inspirational story … in his own words.
