Bob and Judi Bertels are longtime mortgage business owners in the Greater St. Louis, MO region. Once when their church hosted a touring concert choir of African children, Bob and Judy opened their home to provide overnight care for some of them. This “mustard seed” beginning eventually led to their founding the Africa Vision of Hope, wherein AVH – with many appreciated supporters — provides for the ongoing schooling and meals – 30,000 meals a month – for 1,500 children in Zambia, Africa!

The Bertels have known tragedy in their church family. A few years ago a gunman entered their church’s Sunday morning worship, walked forward while Pastor Fred Winters was preaching from the Word of God, and shot Pastor Fred to death! Pastor Fred – also a personal friend of mine — had ministered to the Bertels family for years, helping to lead the Bertel children to Christ, had baptized them, and even performed their family weddings.
