Galen Miller’s parents heard Dr. Martin Luther King JR’s moving oratory made on August 30, 1963, at the Washington, D.C.’s National Mall. It dramatically appealed to people everywhere for justice, racial harmony, and for judgments to be made on the content of one’s character rather than color of one’s skin.
The impact of his message was perhaps the “tipping point” in motivating the Miller family’s move from rural Kansas to the inner-city of North St. Louis, Missouri. They yearned to make things better … to “live out” Dr. King’s challenge … and to do so in North St. Louis … in the area of streets named Kingshighway, Natural Bridge, Union, and what was to become Dr. Martin Luther King.
Galen Miller remembers the times when he and his sister were among the few – or the only two — white children in many group settings … such as in bus rides and classrooms. He is convinced that his parents willingness to live selflessly, to love and serve others … was a major influence leading him into serving Jesus Christ … in whatever ways his calling would require … to take the Jesus life and its impact to as many as possible of the people Jesus loves … regardless of the circumstances!
Galen, former St. Louis architect, now serves as a national staff member of Campus Crusade for Christ (now known as “CRU.”) His strategic ministry is that of CRU’s Mobilization Director of StoryRunners (www.StoryRunners.com). Galen’s very helpful and descriptive personal website is http://www.gm.cccministry.org/. He met his terrific wife as they were both serving Jesus as CRU staff members. They are blessed with three daughters.
Galen’s ministry service includes being a key supporter of the International Orality Network (www.orality.net). ION is focused on completing the Great Commission of Jesus by reaching the world’s majority, oral or oral preference learners. As I write, ION is preparing to experience its next Annual Conference, this one in St. Louis, MO September 16 – 19, 2013. (See www.orality.net.) If you are reading this in late September of 2013 and beyond, ION intends to have annual conferences … and continue its important intentions of reaching the world’s oral majority until Jesus Christ returns.
