St. Louis architect John Littlefield and wife Kay are among those having experienced great tragedy, yet remaining faithful in their grief. Their daughter, son-in-law, and small grandson had all been killed in an automobile accident … yet they remain committed to God … Family and friends were used to help their continuing recovery.
John’s business is also a ministry … an architect who follows and loves Jesus … he has had his heart in his work to assist scores of churches in their expanding projects…to expand the Kingdom of God!
Nearly four decades ago, John Littlefield was a part of a small group of CBMC members who founded the (then named) Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast of Greater St. Louis, who brought in as speaker for that first one, the late Chuck Colson, who went to prison for his illegal activities during “Watergate” as the attorney for President Richard Nixon. (Mr. Colson was dramatically converted to faith in Jesus Christ. Later his “Prison Fellowship” was to minister worldwide to tens of thousands of prison inmates. I once asked Chuck Colson in a radio interview: “Would you be in a prison ministry if you had not gone to prison yourself?” His one-word answer: “No!”) 2,000 or so attended that first Prayer Breakfast … which, in the early spring of 2013 … just concluded its 37th Annual Prayer Breakfast of Greater St. Louis! See www.cbmcstl.com)
For years I have conducted live brief radio interviews during the Annual Breakfast while the attenders are actually eating. At the 2013 Prayer Breakfast, without any prior planning on my part, the experiences of three successive radio guests, in retrospect, wonderfully impacted me: Jerry Sackberger, Wells Fargo Financial Advisor, was the father of a teen-age son who died (and still brings tears to Jerry’s eyes each time we mention his son); Jim Matush, who also experienced the death of his young son; then, waiting to be interviewed when air time ran out – was Kay and John Littlefield, as aforementioned, were grieved by the death of their three family members.
WOW! Here three radio guests – one after the other, each and all capable of bitterness and being personally destroyed by the deaths of loved ones – were all “lined up,” at the Prayer Breakfast to honor Jesus, paying tribute to the Jesus that had taken each of them through the deep valley of pain and grief! I was awed as each of them honored God, and continue to do so.
