Dr. John Marshall is the 2010 – 1012 President of the 1,900 + member churches of the Missouri Baptist Convention. As a 6th generation preacher in his family, a son and a grandson are extending the family “line” of Marshall family preachers into the 7th and 8th generations. John, as I write, and I are enjoying a 33-three year treasured friendship! Regarding his appreciation of his heritage, I once heard John say of his dear father, Charles Marshall: “He is the best man I know!”
John’s passion and love for Jesus Christ is expressed in may impacting ways … including his great missions leadership of the church he pastors, Second Baptist of Springfield, MO (www.secondbpatist.org) … who from their memberships sends out approximately 1,000 short-term missionaries each year — locally to points around the world. Each adult Sunday School class, for instance, is challenged to support a short-term missionary each year from within their class or church.
Credits of this man of God could go on and on … including in recent years his successful leadership of his beloved Missouri Baptist Convention of churches through some “challenging” and threating times.
From www.secondbaptist.org:
John Marshall was born December 22, 1951, in Sikeston, Missouri, a sixth generation preacher. At age 23 he became the youngest person ever to earn a Doctor of Ministry degree from a Southern Baptist seminary. John and Ruth have two married children and five grandchildren. Dr. And Mrs. Marshall came to Springfield Second in 1995. In 1997 a missions revival began. It continues to be the main emphasis of the church.
