Cynthia Rice, Robin Waymire and friends looked for ways to show appreciation to the troops defending our country. Their response was simple and creative … find a day when a lot of them were going through the St. Louis airport on their way home for Christmas. In 2009, after making arrangements, about 40 volunteers assembled in an open area where all the troops were sure to pass. In 2010 the idea repeated on Sunday, December 19th, from 7:00 – 11:00 AM on a “come when you can and leave when you must” basis…at the lower level baggage area by the USO. As the troops pass, the group smiles, they say “welcome” and “thank you,” and they wave little American flags. Some make signs reflecting love for God, country, and our troops. The sign that read like “I need a soldier hug” actually created something of a receiving line … of hugs!
(What about doing something like this in your city!!)
