Ergun Caner of Turkey; President, Liberty Seminary; re teen Rifqa Bary, horrors of “honor killings”

September 29, 2009

Dr. Ergun Caner, a Turkish Musl’m in background, disowned by his father upon becoming a follower of Jesus Christ, is now the President of Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, VA.  He speaks of the horrors of Islam’c “honor killings” – estimated by the UN to number 5,000 a year — and of the specific case of teenager Rifqa Bary, herself living in fear of becoming a victim of an “honor killing” because of choosing to become a follower of Jesus. Rifqa sought the protection of becoming a ward of the state of Florida rather than being sent back to her family and their Mosque in Columbus, OH.
From Ergun Caner’s website, www.erguncaner.com:   Ergun Mehmet Caner (B.A., M.A., M.Div., Th.M., Th.D.) is president of the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School at the Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Raised as the son of a Muslim leader in Turkey, Caner became a Christian shortly before entering college. Serving under his Chancellor and President, Jerry Falwell Jr., Caner led the Seminary to triple in growth since his installation in 2005. A public speaker and apologist, Caner has debated Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus and other religious leaders in thirteen countries and thirty-five states. The author of seventeen books, Caner lives in Lynchburg with his wife Jill and two sons, Braxton and Drake.
