Pastor Michael Jones, a longtime friend, is the Senior Pastor of the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in the north side of St. Louis, MO (www.ftmbc.org). Highlights from his website accurately describe him as having “… a great enthusiasm for God’s word and people.” He is consumed by the belief that “… The Gospel is a message of change, therefore our focus is to evangelize the community by exemplifying the powerful presence of God in the lives of disciples which will help to transform a community, city, country and the world…God can take the life of those counted out, the oppressed, the overlooked and by His grace change lives and raise a standard allowing them to walk in a new way of life.” Michael and his grandfather are the only two pastors in the history of the church, which now ministers through preaching, community involvement, music, a gymnasium, a 100-plus-unit senior adult residence center, a medical facility, etc. The growing impact of Michael, the church staff, and all of Friendly Temple is an amazing story of progress — made by the impact of the Gospel of Jesus — in inner-city transformation in St. Louis. While a couple of discussion points in this on demand interview describe some important recent events (their Dr. Martin Luther King celebration and Michael’s message at Central Presbyterian Church in West St. Louis County regarding the recent elections), it reveals the heart of Pastor Jones and provides inspiration to the listener.
